He gave his first sermon at Benares. Through Kisa Gotami, the Buddha wanted to tell the world that death is the ultimate truth. All mortals are destined to die sooner or later. There is no family in a world where no one has lost a child, husband, parent or friend.

Answer:

Buddha said that death is common to all. The life of mortals in this world is troubled and brief and combined with pain. For there is not any means by which those that have been born can avoid dying; after reaching old age there is death; of such a nature are living beings. It is useless to fret and worry about death.

He further taught that if humans have to overcome death, it is possible by drawing out the  arrow of lamentation, and complaint, and grief. Man must overcome sorrow to be at peace.
