(B) Abolished tariff barriers and reduced the number of currencies from over thirty  to two

The customs union or zollverein of 1834 which was formed at the initiative of Prussia over the German confederation of 39 states abolished tariff barriers. This helped in reducing the total number of prevailing currencies from 30 to 2. Through this abolishment, Germany attained a liberal nationalism in the economic sphere.

Before the abolishment, Germany had heavy customs duties, tariff barriers and a large number of currencies that deeply affected the trade and economy  of the confederation. Nearly each state in the union had a different currency and custom duty that affected traders in a negative manner.

Through the abolishment of tariff barriers, freedom of markets and removal of restrictions were observed which were the main objectives of an economically liberal nation.
