When the Emperor of Lilliput and his court saw the enemy fleet advance in the shape of a large half-moon, they thought Gulliver had drowned as they could not distinguish him neck deep in the water.
They were sure that that the enemy was advancing for battle and sighed in great relief when Gulliver raised his hand and waved at them.
