The new fellow traveler informs the narrator that the girl was completely blind. In the short story “The Girl on the Train” by Ruskin Bond, the blind narrator tries to start a conversation with a girl who happens to be in the same compartment of the train, without letting her know of his blindness.
After she gets down at the next station a new traveler steps in to accompany the narrator.
It is from him that the narrator comes to know that the girl too was blind like him.
