The narrator's mother told her that Mrs Dorling was a kind lady who was an old acquaintance of her and as the war was against the Jews and there was a chance of them losing their property and belongings in the war, she told that Mrs Dorling is taking their belongings with her to their house which they can retrieve after the war.

In the end she told her to remember the address No.46 Marconi street where Mrs Dorling lived and from where she can collect their belongings. The narrators mother was so good that she did not see that Mrs Dorling was a opportunist and took all their belongings with the hope that she will get to keep them with her.
