what did the poet think about the snake while it was returning back to the hole ( class 10th - the snake )

the poet felt bad that he had tried to kill the snake by throwing a log of wood at it, because of which it went running into the hole towards the bowels of the Earth. He felt bad because he knew that the snake wouldn't return.

when the snake was returning back to the hole the poet's natural instinct and voices of education stand contrary to each other. he was told that earthen brown snakes were venomous and they did not deserve to live.
but, the poet was fascinated by the way with which it moves with grace and dignity.
it was not out of malice that he decided to throw a log at it. it was because of the so called education that dehumanized and desensitized him. Afterwards, he feels guilty of doing this wanton act.
