During the period of constitutional monarchy,the people formed various political clubs.
Amongst these the most famous one is the JACOBIN club.
People of the jacobin club generally belonged to the less prosperous section of the society.
A large group amongst them started wearing long stripped trousers which were similar to those worn by the dock workers.And this was to differentiate them from the nobles who used to wear knee breeches.
It is because of this type of clothing, the jacobins were also called as those without knee breaches or 'SANS CULOTTES'.
Sans culottes means those without knee breaches and it refers to the jacobins.
