The streets played an important role in children lives, streets were the places which they knew each and every corner.They considered lessons on street more valuable as that was the place they grew up playing and falling sometimes it gave them courage to stand and play again than in school they were taught rules and regulations instead of sharing and manners.So yes they were right about their guess on this.
