Clothes are always an expression of people's status inspite of different beliefs.

In Victorian age, there was classification depending on the dressing terms.

Upper class women who didn't used to work wore tight corsets over a bodice with a skirt.

To adorn it, they wore numerous embroideries and trims.

Middle class women used to wear similar dresses but they weren't too extravagant.

The type of fabric and numerous layers worn below the petticoat were a symbol of wealth.
