She notice that they are communicating by moving their lips.
She place her finger first to her mother's lip and then to aunt lip and tried to do so.

Difference Helen noticed in communication between her mother and aunt:
Whenever the conversation took place between Helen’s Mother and her aunt, she noticed that the mode of communication between them is not as same as the way how Helen was communicating with others. Usually Helen used to communicate with others with sign language and she understands the reply given by other person through touching their lips.
But her mother and aunt where noting using both rather they were communicating through normal language. This made her to grow anger as well as made her astonished.
