At the starting of the story, the young seagull is very afraid of making his first flight, while all his brothers and sister had already made their first flight. The young seagull parents tell him that he will not get any food till he flies. But he still sits at the edge of cliff all the day. Then he starts crying for his mother to give him some food. His mother holds a fish and comes near the cliff, but doesn't give the fish to him. For the fish, he has to fly from the cliff. At last, his hunger overcomes his fear for flight and he jumps into the open air, and in mere second, he is flying. Now his mother gives him the fish, and then he glides above the ocean.

This shows how the young seagull was afraid at first to make his first flight, but then at last he overcame his fear due to his hunger.
