Several properties can become the basis for separation. Usually the differences in boiling point is the major reason. Due to this, separation occurs through distillation. But there are certain compounds such as ethanol and water which form an azeotrope. For water: ethanol benzene can be added to “break” the azeotrope or it can be alternatively removed through electrolysis.
