The Flower is the major reproductive organ of the Angiosperms whereas Bud is a small protuberance on the plant organ that may develop into a flower, shoot or leaves.
- Flowers are the hallmark of angiosperms with 4 whorls: Sepals, Petals, Stamens and Carpels.
- Carpel is the female reproductive organ and Stamens are the male reproductive organ. These are the essential whorls of a flower whereas sepal and petal are known as the non-essential whorl of a flower.
- Flowers are also described as modified vegetative shoots.
- Complete flowers are having all four whorls while Incomplete flowers lack any or more basic parts.
- Bud is terminally or auxiliary located at the tip of a stem as a small projection.
- Buds are protected by some scales which are the modified leaves.
- Buds develop from the undifferentiated meristem tissue.
- Bud is thus a primary developing stage of flowers, shoots or leaves.
