As nouns the difference between nationalism and ultranationalism is that nationalism is patriotism; the idea of supporting one's country and culture while ultranationalism is extreme nationalism, the belief in the superiority of one's nation and of the paramount importance of advancing it.

Hope it helps

Answer:

Nationalism is a comparatively recent phenomenon, probably born with the French Revolution, but despite its short history, it has been extremely important in forming the bonds that hold modern nations together. Today it operates alongside the legal structure and supplements the formal institutions of society in providing much of the cohesiveness and order necessary for the existence of the modern nation-state.

Ultranationalism develops in people when they have fanatical belief in their own group and fear and loathing of anyone who challenges those beliefs. ... Hitler commited horrible acts of genocide in killing millions of Jewish people for their race and used his ultranationalistic views to create his "super race". Eg. Aryan Race
