Explanation:

Devising processes:-

Devising a piece of theatre can be a stimulating and exciting journey towards the development of a performance which is a fusion of the unique talents and creativity of the group. It is not a direct journey, but one in which you will encounter well-trodden paths, blind alleys and sudden surprises. In order to prepare, the group needs to have a good grasp of improvisatory skills. The following exercise helps students learn to accept each others’ ideas – a concept which is not only useful in improvisation, but essential in developing the dynamics of the group throughout the devising process.

Rehearsal processes:

In a rehearsal process, one or more people decides, through a process of repetition, how to tell a story.

That can be accomplished in countless ways, depending on the goals and preferences of the person(s) involved.

It is a general term for the order of steps you take when you prepare a performance of any kind. It can be the steps one takes in preparing to perform, or the larger process of working through the work or event.

Here is a common process I’ve used, although different directors and companies may have different specifics:

Table read: director and performers sit and read through the script

Production meetings: Director, designers, and technical staff discuss ideas

Blocking rehearsals: Director and performers learn how to move on set, technical aspects (props, set pieces, costumes) may be added as performers become comfortable with their lines and blocking

Technical Rehearsal: Rehearsal moves into the performance space and technical aspects (lighting, sound, etc.) are added. Often the technical crew will have an opportunity to work through cues, scene changes, etc. before the performers are added

Dress Rehearsals: The show is run as if it were a performance (sometimes with a small audience)
