1592 - Queen Elizabeth locked Walter and his wife Bess in a prison called The Tower of London for getting married without her permission. Raleigh was freed in 1592.

1603 - Queen Elizabeth died and the new King James did not trust Walter. He was sent back to the Tower of London for thirteen more years.

1616- Raleigh was released once again to explore South America.
