The biconcave shape gives them more surface area to accommodate haemoglobin efficiently. It also helps them to bend easily to pass through blood vessels. Thus, enables them to transport oxygen more efficiently. If the RBCs become biconvex shaped, they will not be able to accommodate haemoglobin and bend easily. Thus, cannot transport oxygen efficiently.
