"Solved and unsolved mysteries usually have a difference in the number of clues available to solve the case.
When there aren't any clues available even the brightest of minds cannot solve the mystery.
Also, it must be noticed that even Sherlock Holmes had Dr Watson, so there must be enough people and labour behind the mystery and the case in hand to actually solve it.
