Both men believed that government should not be “winner take all” proposition, but rather that the rights of a minority should be and is guaranteed and protected by the Constitution. In that regard, they should be both considered as civil rights icons. Many differences. Lincoln was self-educated and began a career in law. King was university educated and began his career in the clergy. King also was never elected to any public office. And, of course, both men were assassinated and history now recognizes their wisdom and contributions to American thought today.
