Agile prescribes working incrementally, collaboratively and flexibly; it does not prescribe a specific framework or methodology. A few of the most popular frameworks that Agile teams adopt are Scrum, Kanban and Extreme Programming. Teams may choose one of these frameworksor pieces of each.

All of the present agile frameworks have one thing in common, they all follow an iterative approach for software development, which is very much similar to the spiral model of software development.

Now, agile development is more of a methodology/approach rather than anything else. This development refers to a development technique where a highly iterative process is employed for the software development composed of several development cycles.

Each one of those cycles is referred to as a sprint.
