This question actually made me very happy. While most of the questions on Quora are about "What to do to make a woman or man very happy?" this one is about old people. I like it.
I love my grandfather a lot. When I used to visit him during my Summer holidays he would come back home after work, sleep with his back facing upwards and ask me to walk all over his back, finally he would ask me to massage his bald head as well. He would ask me to stand on his head, I would do so after some initial reluctance and this would make him very happy.
My grandmother would narrate me mythological stories and when I asked her some questions she would feel very happy. My grand father's sister would cook great food, she would make delicious sweets and when I ate them sumptuously she would feel very happy. All of my grand parents and their generation just liked spending time with their grand kids.
Old people like to spend time with the younger generation and share their wisdom as Rick Bruno's answer points out. But mostly they do that out of a protective instinct called Love. You won't find that in your contemporaries or colleagues because competitive instinct takes over.
Falling asleep listening to my grand mother's stories makes me happy and it makes her happy too. My grand mother felt really proud when I graduated with a PhD degree. It seems she shared the news with everyone in the locality, I could not be more surprised, what would a PhD in Electrical Engineering mean to her, nothing much except few tears of joy.
