Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) have been used extensively in last five or six decades as refrigerants in the vapor compression cycle to produce refrigeratingand air-conditioning effects. In recent years it has been found that CFCs are most destructive to the environment. It has been proved that CFCs are a major cause of depletion of the earth’s stratospheric ozone layer and contribute to the greenhouse effect (global warming).

CFC stand for Chloro Fluro Carbon molecules .
CFC'S are used as coolants in refrigerators ,freezers and Air conditioners manufactured before 1995.
CFC'S are also present in industrial solvents ,dry cleaning agents and hospital sterilants (sterilizers ),aerosols and foam.
All the above materials release a lot of CFC molecules into the atmosphere.
CFC molecules are broken down by ultraviolet radiations which result in release of chlorine and fluorine ,which further reduce the ozone layer
They react which ozone and deplete it.
The main cause of ozone layer depletion is CFC molecules.

Hope it helps you!
