Contour lines are lines on a map which join places of equal elevation or height, above or below sea level.
A map which shows contour lines is called a Contour map. This is a topographic map which shows mountains, valleys, hills and slopes, connected by contour lines according to their elevation above sea level.
Contour maps and contour lines help us visualise the topography of land, with regards to elevation or height.
