Here is what the critics say about Antonio :
Antonio was a weak character in Merchant of Venice.
He wanted to remain serious so that everyone would recognize him as a faithful and great person.
Everyone will think that the person is a saint and hence he kept that behavior.
Antonio was not able to control his emotions.
He did not care for himself and did not have any care for any other people except Bassanio .
These are the things that critics would point out .
