Doris and Cyril are the kids of Mr and Mrs Pearson, both of them have treated their mother as a house servant in the past, they continued to do so. when Mrs Fitzgerald and Pearson changed personalities, the new aggressive attitude of Mrs Pearson was really shocking for both the kids. They thought their mother had hit her head and so she was acting so strange.

Explanation:

JB Priestley's extract shows the domestic negligence that often house mom's go through.

She was neglected by her husband and ignored by her kids.

When the new behavior of Mrs Pearson pointed out by Mrs Fitzgerald in front of all her family members happened, it made real Mrs Pearson realize that she was being too tough on herself and that she should take a stand for her self respect.
