certain gases in the atmosphere such as water vapour carbon dioxide carbon monoxide nitrous oxide and methane are the greenhouse gases this gas greenhouse gases from a layer in upper region of the atmosphere the Sunrays that the Earth receive passes through the greenhouse gases and warms the one surface of the earth radiate some heat back to the atmosphere the greenhouse gases do not let all the heat escape from the Earth atmosphere . they trap some heat and keep the earth work this is known as greenhouse effect .
