-White plastic bags are usually used for disposing off food waste.
-Purple plastic bags are used for disposing cytotoxic wastes(wastes toxic to living cells).
-Red plastic bags contain bio-hazardous wastes such as blood stained clothes or cotton.
-Yellow bag contain infectious clinical wastes.
The method of sorting waste is generally referred to as color coding. The color is also used in the regular garbage collection system as follows:
brown is for garden and kitchen waste.
blue is for recyclable waste
green is for non-recyclable waste
