What do the different colours on the milestones mean? (Briefly explain the use of each color.)

The yellow and white colour on the milestone is used to indicate the national highway.The green and white color indicates the state highway. Black and white colour on the milestones indicates that they belong to city /district roads. orange and white colour indicates the rural roads.
