Unfortunately many academics consider themselves social engineers. And in their efforts to reach their goals, are revising or reinterpreting history. One of the biggest mistakes that is currently being committed is to judge historical figures based on today's value or circumstances. You cant do that.
Historians should be passionate about history and be able to see the world through the eyes of the people of the past and take into account all the circumstance that affected their actions. Historical figures and events shouldn't be judged out of the context of the time they lived in.
