the metaphors of fire and ice convey that fire is similar to desire and ice is similar to hate . they both are capable of destroying the world . if we look for the metaphoric meaning , then fire i.e. desire and ice i.e. hate are powerful human emotions that are capable of destroying the human relations. the poet gives this message and says that we need to get rid of these emotions and live in harmony and peace.
