The green patches in ponds and lake consist of Blue green algae.

EXPLANATION:

The stagnant water exposed to sunlight turn green. This is due to raw mineral in the salt form nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. The air borne spores and nutrients spores get in to water and turn the water colour in to green colour.

These conditions are found in various mountain lakes, streams that contain finally ground rock, glacial flour, on tortoise, the floating mat of algae is often slippery in nature.
