2+ and 3+ is valence electron. it means no. of electron in outermost shell.

Explanation:

EX-: oxygen has E.C as 2,6 so its valency is 8-6=2 and sodium has E.C as 2,8,1 so its valency is 1.

if in outermost shell no. of electron is 1,2,or 3 then it is metal and valency is same but for 4,5,6,7 or 8 we subtract by 8 to get valency.
