NORTHERN PLAINS :-

⭐The Northern plain has been formed by the interplay of three major river systems namely the Indus , the Ganga and the Brahmaputra along with their tributaries .

⭐It is formed of Alluvial soil which makes it a fertile plain .

⭐It spreads over an area of 7 lakh square kilometre .

⭐It is about 2400 km long and 240 to 320 kilometre brought and is densely populated .

⭐With having a good fertility the soil cover has also an adequate amount of water and favourable climate which makes it a very agriculturally productive part of India .

⭐It is broadly divided into three sections .

✔ The western part of the northern plain is referred as Punjab plains formed by Indus and its tributaries which is largely located in Pakistan . The tributaries of Indus river that are responsible for making Punjab Plains are - the Jhelum , the Chenab , the Ravi , the Beas and the Sutlej that originate from Himalayas .

✔Next , is the Ganga plain which extends between Ghaggar and Teesta rivers and it spread over the states of North India like Haryana, Delhi , Uttar Pradesh , Bihar , partly Jharkhand and West Bengal to its East .

✔Then is the Brahmaputra plain which is particularly in Assam formed by the Brahmaputra river .

⭐According to the variations in relief features , the northern plains can be divided into four regions .

✔The rivers after descending from mountains deposit pebbles in a narrow belt about 8 to 16 kilometres in with line parallel to the slopes of the shivaliks , this is called as bhabar . All of these streams disappear here .

✔Then , the streams and rivers re-emerge and create a wet , swampy and marshy region which is called as teria . It is thickly forested region full of wildlife .

✔The largest part of the northern plain is formed by the older alluvium . They lie above the food Plains of the rivers and present a terrace like feature , this part is known as Bhangar . The soil in this region contains calcareous deposits locally known as Kankar .

✔The newer , younger deposits of the flood Plains are called khadar which are renewed almost every year and are so fertile thus ideal for intensive agriculture .

Answer:

The Northern Plains is part of the larger expanse of the Great Plains, an American Serengeti. The expansive prairie is a sea of short and mixed grasses supporting grazers, small predators, grassland birds and burrowing animals. The symbiotic relationship between wildlife and the grasslands is what makes this place so special.

Explanation:

>>The Northern Plains were once immense and vast, and home to some of the nation’s most iconic species of wildlife. Prior to early settlement in the 19th century, these grasslands supported millions of bison and Pronghorn antelope. Grizzly bears and gray wolves once roamed the plains, with scenes of natural selection a regular spectacle. In addition to the loss of these species, much of these lands have also been dismantled. We have lost nearly half of the 180 million acres of the American Great Plains, with only remnant wildlife populations. Despite the ecological consequences of the past, the possibility in the 21st century of restoring the plains and recovering wildlife is a charge Defenders is committed to for this and future generations.

>>>The divison:

The Northern Plain can be divided into three main parts:

  • The Indus and its tributaries – the Jhelum, the Chenab, the Ravi, the Beas and the Sutlej - originate in the Himalaya. ...
  • The Ganga Plain lies between the Ghaggar and the Teesta rivers.
  • The Brahmaputra Plain lies in the state of Assam.

>>>Classification of Northen Plains:

On the basis of its location, the Northern Indian plains can be classified into three categories: The river Indus along with its tributaries form the Punjab Plains.
