The thermite Reactions in which Aluminium is used as a reducing agent are known as Aluminothermic reactions.

The process in which Aluminium is used to reduce the metal oxide to metallic form are called aluminothermy.

The Aluminothermic process in which iron oxide is reduced to iron is used in following purposes :

★ In welding processes to join the broken iron pieces.

★ In joining cracked machine parts.

★ In joining railway tracks.
