Answer:

Explanation:

An artery is a blood vessel that takes blood away from the heart to one or more parts of the body. Most arteries carry oxygenated blood. veins are blood vessels that carry blood towards the heart. Most veins carry deoxygenated blood from the tissues back to the heart; exceptions are the pulmonary and umbilical veins, both of which carry oxygenated blood to the heart. In contrast to veins, arteries carry blood away from the heart.d

Arteries carry oxygenated ( bright red in colour )

blood from heart to other body parts of body. Pulmonary is an exception. It carries deoxygenated blood from heart to lungs for its purification or oxygenation. Arteries have thick elastic walls since flow of blood in them is rapid and at high pressure ( pumped by heart ).

The largest artery in the body is arota, that arises from the left ventricle of heart. It divide into smaller branches called arteries. On reaching the tissues, arteries further divide into extremely thin tubes called capillaries. Capillaries are the finest vessels, only single cell in thickness. Material and gases easily diffuse through capillaries and enter into cells of tissue.

Fine capillaries receive waste from the body cells and rejoin to form veins. All the veins further join to form larger vein called vena cava which opens into heart.

Veins carry deoxynated blood ( dark red in colour due to lack of O2) from body parts to heart. Pulmonary vein is an exception. It carries oxygenated blood from lungs to heart. Veins are thin walled vessels as blood do not flow with high pressure in them. They posses unidirectional valves which direct the flow of blood towards heart/lungs and prevent backward flow of blood.

Veins runs just below the skin and hence can be easily seen. They are more prominent in old persons.
