Autoprotolysis is a reaction in which two same molecules react to give ions with proton transfer. Water undergoes autoprotolysis, i.e., a proton from one water molecule is transferred to another water molecule

H2O(l)+H2O(l)⇆H3O

+ (aq) + o h - (aq)

On account of autoprotolysis, water is amphoteric in nature, i.e., it reacts with both acids and bases.

H2O+NH3→ NH + 4 +OH -

Hope this helps!
