Indian (chiefly Gujarat): Hindu (Brahman) name, from Sanskrit bhargava ‘(descendant) of Bhrigu’. Bhrigu is the name of one of the great sages of Hindu legend.Gondwana was a supercontinent that broke up into landmasses 180 million years ago. Most of the landmasses which make up today's continents of the southern hemisphere, including Antarctica, South America, Africa, Madagascar, India, Arabia, Australia-New Guinea and New Zealand were separated by this huge supercontinent.

Indian subcontinent was thus formed on peninsular plateau that drifted away from Gondwana . Hence, making it the oldest landmass of India.
