The name 'Dober' is thought to come from the word 'Dobre' (which is common to various Slavic languages) meaning 'good' or 'OK'. The origins of how the village came to attain such a name is unknown but local residents speculate that the land around the village was considered good and fertile land (or 'Dobre') by visiting Montenegrin traders and may have stuck as a name for the early modern settlement in the 19th century. Another theory states that the founding families of the village were from the Cokaj clan which is thought to descend from the Kuci region of Montenegro and as such may have spoken Serbian and named the village 'good place' (or Dobre').
