Copulation ( in human ) is principally the insertion and thrusting of the penis, usually when erect,into the vagina for sexual pleasure, reproduction or both.
Copulation ranges from a purely reproductive activity to one for emotional bonding.
In many societies, it is normal for couples to sexual intercourse while using some methods of contraception,sharing pleasure and strengthening their emotional bond through sexual activity even though they are deliberately avoiding pregnancy.
