because when the cell is immersed in hypotonic solution the cell starts to shrink but cell wall exerts a force to keep the cell in shape .

it is also because that the water content inside the cell reduces due to low water in the outside surrounding ..

cytoplasm is mainly composed of water so when water goes out the cell cytoplasm starts to shrink
