The story Phool ka Mulya by Rabindranath Tagore teaches that size or cost does not matter with respect to the offerings made to God. What actually matters is the devotion with which you make the offering. This will make you feel quite happy and light at heart.
In the story, both the king and his sentry were ready to pay a hefty sum to the gardener to get the lotus to offer to Lord Buddha. As the fight progressed, the gardener decided not to sell the flower and offer it to Buddha himself. He went to the place where the Lord was meditating and kept the flower at His feet. This made him feel happier than he would have felt if he had sold the flower.
