what do we mean by formatting

Formatting means preparing. Your question is related to computer science.. so there are two kinds of formatting are coming in my mind..

1. Disk formatting: it is used to remove all data from disk and re-create sectors in it so that it can store data

2. Text formatting: it means decorating text basically, we can make it bold, italic, change background color, foreground color etc...
