It was humorous and funny as the narrator was not able to forget the dollar he lent to his friend and made many efforts to remind him about it and get it back, but the amount was so less that his friend totally forgot and did not even expect he had to gave it back

The story is very
humorous because the author makes repeated attempts to remind his friend about the
dollar he had borrowed from him. Every time he raises a topic so that his friend
may remember about it. But when he seems to have forgotten about it all
together he goes home and makes a list of the people from whom he himself had
borrowed money and not returned. In this way though he is so anxious to get the
dollar back he takes care that his friend does not know about his anxiety. He
even goes to the extent of requesting the reader not to reveal his feelings to
his friend.
