Explanation:

Homes will be more energy efficient, and hopefully have a smaller "imprint" both in square footage and effects on the environment.

Technology will do lots of things for houses, making them more responsive to owners via apps, where systems and warnings can be done online, repair orders dispatched, and even potential diagnoses for issues when something malfunctions when you're at home or away.

We also need to address "aging in place" for our elderly. Restrictive zoning in many markets has created huge overhead, and therefore cost of building new, or even utilizing existing structures more efficiently. We all don;t need minimum 2 acre lots sizes and one 3,000+ SqFt McMansion on a lot. Allowing several properties and/or a 3,000 SqFt house to be repurposed for rental, or condominiumizing, could go a long way to solving price per unit costs in high priced markets, and allowing many seniors to derive much needed income to survive their senior years with dignity.

A combination of government, think tanks, real estate experts, public meetings and technology experts should come together to make recommendations beginning on a statewide, then county, then local basis......

Answer:

I imagine a house with spreading eaves to branching canopies of leaves, come spring. In bud and blossoming, they’d bring forth blushing summer fruits to feed what comes on wing to nest, and sing amid the limbs, and rest in cool green light, to darkling deeps of starry night - their souls to keep a touch more safe. And grateful for the welcoming roof I’ve built, and build. A restful place, for busy lives. For this we live, and die, and kill.
