Balkan was a state which is under the control of ottoman empire
It compramised modern day romania,bulgari,albania,greece,montenegro,bosnia herzagovania,slovenia,serbia
They struggled for independance against a muslim empire and used history to prove that once they were independent but subsequently subdjucted to foreign power
Slowly there was a disintegration of balkan territory and many new nation states were formed
