Hamadri are the outer most ranges of the Himalayas. Length of himadri is about 2400km and width varies from 400km in jammu and Kashmir to 150 km in arunachal Pradesh. The average height of the ranges is over 6000m.

They constitute mainly of igneous rocks.

Himachal also known as lesser Himalayas .

It is the range lower to himadris. The average height of the ranges here is between 3000-4500m. The main ranges are the pir panjal ranges, mahabharat ranges and dhaula dhaur ranges.

The lower most ranges of the Himalayas are known as Shiwaliks. The average height of the ranges are between 900- 1200 m. The shiwaliks are divided into duns such as Dehradun, patlidun and kotli dun. It give ways to many perennial rivers.
