Answer:

Rainfall in India:

• Rainfall is India is highly orographic as result of which it is unevenly distributed all over the subcontinent.

• Due to the presence of relief features like mountains, hills and plateaus, places on the windward side receive more rainfall than places on the leeward side.

• The main reason is that when the rain bearing clouds approach the relief they are forced to rise up and precipitate on the windward side and by the time they reach the leeward side they have no or very little moisture giving scanty rainfall.

• Since the Aravalli Range is parallel to the direction of Southwest Monsoon Winds, it doesn't trap the clouds and thus there is very little rainfall in Western Rajasthan.

Hope this helps you.
