Cold and dry continental northwesterly winds are replaced by warm and moist southwesterly winds. These trade winds then approach the India sub-continent in two separate branches – the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. Monsoon season, running from June to September, is an important phenomenon.

South West monsoon is the rain bearing seasonal winds that flow from Arabian Sea to the main land of India from the South-West direction. They start to cross India around May, and as per Indian Meteorological Department, the official monsoon season is between June to September.
