The word ‘Akal Takht’ literally means in Punjabi the ‘Throne of Timeless One or God’.

It is a building that adorns the entranceway of Harmandir Sahib Gurdwara or Golden Temple in Amritsar.

Its idea was initiated by Guru Hargovind in 1606 so that he could address all the Sikhs on religious and social or political matters.

Presently, all the religious orders regarding the practices of Sikhism are still issued from this Akal Takht and considered as the highest seat of Sikh culture.
