1. He began his life as a Prince in northern India ( LUMBINI ).
2. At twelve, he was sent away for schooling in the Hindu sacred scriptures and after four years he returned to marry a princess ( Yashodhara ).
3. At the age of 25, he was shielded from the sufferings of the world, while out hunting chanced upon a sick man, then an aged man, then a funeral procession and finally a monk begging for his alms.
4. This made him so sad. He went out into the world to seek enlightenment concerning the sorrows he had witnessed.
5. He wandered for about seven years and finally sat under a peepal tree where he got enlightened after seven years.
6. He then became as the Buddha ( the Awakened or the Enlightened ).
